News Flash!

The office has recently learned of an application
through the Ontario Legislature to restrict the term
"kinesiologist" to members of the Ontario Kinesiology
Association who represent a group of people who have
trained at university to provide "traditional" kinesiology,
not to be confused with Specialized Kinesiology,
Educational Kinesiology, or Energy Kinesiology.

We will advise you of an action plan you can help
participate in when we get details and organize a campaign
to have this organization's application modified to support
our Ontario members.

We must act now to protect the rights of all our members.
More information will be sent to you soon.

February 2007
Legislation Alert!

Dear Past and Present Members, and Friends of CanASK:

There is a proposal which has already passed First Reading in the
Ontario Legislature which would restrict the term "Kinesiologist" only
to members of the Ontario Kinesiology Association. There would be no
allowance for modifications of this term should the legislation become
enacted into law.
You can bet these folks aren't about Specialized Kinesiology,
Educational Kinesiology, Energy Kinesiology, or Health Kinesiology.....
It is imperative we take steps to assist our members in Ontario who
would like to legally advertise they are one of these types of
kinesiologists after the new legislation gets approved.

There is still time to have input to modify the application. However,
we need everyone in Ontario to spend some time writing a few letters
and getting the word out to colleagues, clients, and supporters of our
work. This has to happen soon, because the Bill will be called up to
the Legislature sometime after it reopens March 19th. Feel free to copy
and edit sections of the information below when drafting your letters.
We have been advised if a number of letters are received by the
Minister's office which have similar content, this may have more weight,
partly because the message will be very clear. Some of the information
below is underlined because this specific information is quite important
to include in your letters, some of the wording designed to get the
attention of people who can make sure your concerns are noted.

In addition, all our Canadian members can help get the word out to
colleagues, clients, and supporters of our work in Ontario, because
this legislation, if approved as currently laid out, could set a
precedence which could lead the way for similar legislation to be more
quickly adopted in other provinces! It wouldn't hurt for you to send
along your letters too even if you live outside of Ontario, indicate
in your letters your concern that if this legislation in passed in
Ontario, it may affect your livelihood eventually should your province
choose to enact similar legislation because of the possible precedence
being set in Ontario.

Your executive board members and your office staff are working
diligently on your behalf, however, there is power in numbers.
Choose to commit some energy to furthering the strength of our
association at this important time.

WHAT CAN WE DO????

A) Get informed
www.ontla.on.ca
Click on the following:
"Bills", "Public Bills Index", "171",
"view First Reading in PDF".
You may want to cruise along the scroll bar to specifically
notice the information on pages 10 & 11 of the PDF.
(notice the page numbers of the PDF document don't correlate exactly
to page numbers on the actual document).
These pages relate to:
Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991"
Then see page 12 re: Schedule 'O' - Kinesiology Act.,
and page 143 & 144 re: Kinesiology Act, 2006.

B) Take Action!
The bill will be debated in the legislature before being sent to Second
Reading. This debate is undertaken by Members of Provincial Parliament
(MPPs).
Contact yours immediately and inform them of the depth of your feeling
regarding the restrictions which will be placed upon you should this Act
be passed into Law. You may phone, write, fax, email, and/or request an
appointment. Submitting your feelings in writing is probably the best way
to keep a record and you may request your MPP reply to you in writing with
their commitment to support your concerns.

You may find your MPPs contact information at: www.ontla.on.ca

Once there, you will want to click on the following:
"Members"
Scroll almost all the way down to "Who is my MPP?" and choose "Elections
Ontario",
Choose your language of preference,
then at upper right of your screen choose
"find your electoral district"
at which point you can
enter your postal code
and find all the contact information for your specific area.
Or follow this direct link:
http://www.electionsontario.on.ca/fyed/en/form_page_en.jsp

C) Take More Essential Action!
Write directly to the Minister of Health:
Honorable George Smitherman
Minister of Health and Long Term Care
Hepburn Block, 10th floor
80 Grosvenor Street
Toronto, Ontario
M7A 2C4

and to his Parliamentary Assistant:
Monique Smith
Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
80 Grosvenor St. 11th floor, Hepburn block

fax: (416) 325-8412
mssmith.mpp@liberal.ola.org

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This would be a good time to clearly, briefly, and concisely note our
work effectively assists many people in releasing physical and emotional
stress in a completely safe, non-invasive manner. Mention you belong
to (or support) a National Association called the: "Canadian Association
of Specialized Kinesiology", which has affiliations with numerous
international kinesiology associations.
Some of you receiving this message are practitioners who will want the
government to be sensitive to you who are earning a living working with
specialized kinesiology and the current wording contained in Bill 171
will have some unintended consequences if it becomes enacted as it is
proposed. You may briefly discuss how many years you have spent building
a practice and a reputation in your community based on the term:
"Specialized (or other) Kinesiology".
Some of you receiving this message hold internationally recognized
certificates through the Professional Kinesiology Practitioner Program,
and/or the Educational Kinesiology Foundation, and/or Health Kinesiology
which should be noted in your correspondence.
Some of you receiving this message are instructors. You can add to your
letters that you follow an internationally approved syllabus in your
teaching and are ultimately governed by the International Kinesiology
College (or the Edu-K Foundation, or the International College of
Professional Kinesiology Practice, etc...).

----------------------------------------------------------------------

We would like to suggest:
We would like the legislation follow the format of other groups who
have publicly respected and well recognized titles such as: Registered
Massage Therapist, Registered Nutritional Consultant, Registered Nurse,
etc. and would like to suggest:
Regarding Bill 171, specifically the Kinesiology Act 2006
Section 1,
to amend definition of 'profession' from "Kinesiologist" to
"Registered Kinesiologist"
and amend the name of the college from "College of Kinesiologists of
Ontario" to "College of Registered Kinesiologists of Ontario".
Regarding Section 7(1)about Restricted Titles, to amend 'Kinesiologist"
to "Registered Kinesiologist"
and changing the wording from: "No person other than a member should
use the title "Kinesiologist", a variation or abbreviation or an
equivalent in another language."
to wording which allows members of national and international
kinesiology associations to call themselves by a descriptive term
which includes the word 'kinesiologist'. This may also include doctors
who are already licensed to call themselves "Applied Kinesiologists"
who otherwise might be excluded because of the broad scope of the
proposed restriction, as well as members of the Canadian Association
of Specialized Kinesiology who may be trained to perform various
modalities of kinesiology. We propose the change in wording will assist
the public to recognize the differences between a Registered
Kinesiologist and one of the other currently available types of
Specialized Kinesiologists. Finally, regarding Section 7(2):
"No person other than a member shall hold himself or herself out
as a person who is qualified to practise in Ontario as a Kinesiologist
or in a specialty of kinesiology."
We suggest this sentence be amended in respect to those of our members
who may have spent a considerably amount of time and resources achieving
recognition in our local and national communities, and in some cases,
the international community of Specialized Kinesiology.
The purpose of this letter is to advise the Legislature and its Members
there are other practitioners of Kinesiology, and related Associations
who should be considered before accepting this Act as proposed.

We would strongly like to suggest defining the restricted term to be:
"Registered Kinesiologist".

----------------------------------------------------------------------

You all have something special and unique you can add to your letters.
Please do so.
The volume of submissions does have some effect. Therefore, find all
your old classmates even if they are not currently practitioners and
have them send in letters too. Instructors, please contact your past
students and request they assist in this effort. Invite your clients
to write in too...they should want to have continued access to your
services without you worrying that you could get slapped with a fine
from $25,000 to $50,000 for 'holding yourself out as a kinesiologist'
in Ontario should the law pass as it is currently proposed!!!
Did that get your attention? It's true!
Take Action Right Now!

D) Want to Contribute More?
Inform us of which MPP you have contacted so we may track that
information. Also please advise if you find anyone else who may assist
us in our efforts.

Some of you may want to follow up with the Clerk of the Legislature,
and/or the Clerk of the Committees of the Legislature. Contact the
CanASK office for their telephone numbers and email addresses.
office@canask.org.

And please send us useful information as you discover it, or may
already know about specifically.

Remember to focus on Positive Outcomes for everyone, and perhaps
dedicate a balance to this effort.

TIDBITS:
How A Government Bill Becomes Law:

After First Reading, a Bill can move to Second Reading.
Here there is debate on the principle of the Bill, Members and
the Minister may make speeches however there is no amendment
to the text of the Bill at this stage.
After debate concludes, the Speaker puts the Question on the
motion for the Second Reading.
IF the Bill is given Second Reading it may by unanimous consent
be ordered for Third Reading.
Otherwise, the Bill is referred to Committee.
If EIGHT or more Members (MPPs) require that the Bill be referred
to a Standing or Select Committee, the Minister designates the
committee.
OTHERWISE, IF the Order for the Second Reading is Discharged
(not approved unanimously) the Bill is referred to a Standing
Committee for review and hearings. As the principle of the Bill
has not yet been adopted, the Committee's consideration may be
wide ranging.
THIS IS THE POINT where we may have physical representation in front
of the committee and further written submissions will be considered
by committee members from people affected by the Bill. An attorney
is not essential to make these presentations so your voice can still
be heard!

TIPS

Breath-holding can lock muscles!
Do you know why holding your breath can interfere with muscle
monitoring results?
Holding the breath seems to recruit the adrenals allowing
their energy to temporarily supply the muscle being tested.
This extra energy may be just enough to hide a true result
-- a muscle that would otherwise unlock!
Remember, you are supposed to monitor each muscle for only
about two seconds with two pounds of pressure. To be an
accurate tester, develop your senses to detect when someone
isn't continually breathing!

Breath-holding can sometimes unlock muscles!
Did you know any muscle should remain locked if tested after
ten seconds of breath holding? (Do not let your friend take
a big breath first - simply ask them to hold their breath for
ten seconds part-way through a normal breath phase.)
If the muscle being monitored doesn't lock when tested in this
way, it could indicate a problem with the diaphragm.

Breathing can assist during corrections!
For more information on how the breath can specifically be
used to assist corrections, you may want to take PKP classes,
and find some chiropractic reference materials such as
David S. Walther's books on Applied Kinesiology or
Dr. Sheldon C. Deal's books on Advanced Kinesiology.

OFFICE NOTES
We've already heard from our members they enjoy the contact
available through the e-newsletters. A few are worried it may
replace their eagerly anticipated and highly appreciated quarterly
paper newsletters. It's all good...the paper newsletters are a
strong benefit of membership and will continue to carry articles and
advertisements supporting the development of specialized
kinesiology in Canada. If you have let your subscription lapse
lately, you have missed some very interesting issues as our editor
gains his stride in developing a professional looking publication
containing significant and valuable articles. Please consider
re-joining and supporting the expansion of specialized kinesiology
in Canada!

More seriously folks, we want to let you know that CanASK
has mailed out over 100 letters to all the Ontario MPPS asking
they send Bill 171 to committee for further review. In particular,
Schedule 'O' Kinesiology Act 2006 is a serious challenge to our
Ontario members who, if the Act passes, will no longer be able to
hold themselves out as 'Kinesiologists" unless they belong to the
Ontario Kinesiology Association (a group formed for those
'traditionally-trained' kinesiologists. We expect to be able to
make a presentation to the committee that our organization has
existed since 1993, and we recommend the Ontario Government restrict
the use of the title "Registered Kinesiologist" in order to leave
room for our members to also call themselves "Specialized
Kinesiologists, Educational Kinesiologists, Health Kinesiologists,
and Energy Kinesiologists". For more information contact Denise at:

TIPS
"Flick Trick"
A great way for newbies and old-timers alike, to determine if the
muscle is really locked, or not.
Remember if you're not sure if the muscle is truly testing locked,
you can always lightly 'flick' or 'pinch' the skin somewhere away
from the muscle you are testing and quickly re-test the muscle.
It should either more clearly lock, or unlock.

The reason for this is because we expect the nervous system should
easily be able to hold the light testing pressure being applied and
also tolerate a little irritiation somewhere. If it can be so easily
distracted by a little flick that it cannot hold the muscle test at
the same time, then: 'Houston - we have a problem!'

"Zip Ups"
You may perform your Central Meridian check: "Zip Down/Up" during
prechecks and then forget what a great tool it can be anytime when
you might want to check into the status of the Central Meridian
(and an overall-average check into the sum of all the meridians).

When would you want to do that? Hmmm......

How about when you'd like to double check that the nutrition
suggested in the textbook (or your related training, or direct
observation) which strengthens a particular muscle actually also
supports and can be tolerated by all the meridians???
That seems like a valuable question to ask.
.... for example: maybe a rutabaga causes the Pectoralis Major
Sternal to lock, but do all the kids on the block like rutabaga?
Hold the substance in your normal testing location (many of us hold
substances near the navel, or the parotid gland in the jaw, or the
thymus under the sternum). Then 'zip down' the Central Meridian
while checking with an indicator muscle such as the Anterior Deltoid
....did the indicator muscle unlock? Now 'zip up' the Central
Meridian....did the indicator muscle lock?
If the Indicator didn't behave in the normal response
(Zip Up = muscle stays up, Zip Down = the muscle drops down),
the food or substance the person is holding may strengthen one
particular muscle or meridian, however the other meridians are
telling you they would rather something else.
Do NOT take this substance. Explore other items that will lock
the Indicator Muscle and be tolerated by all the other meridians as
well.

There are several books available for sale at alternative book
stores which introduce the public to the idea of muscle testing.
Some may describe checking for sensitivites simply by muscle testing
while holding or touching a substance. They say if a muscle test
weakens while you're touching a substance, that substance is not
good for you. While this can be helpful to someone being introduced
to the concept of muscle testing -- in my opinion and that of some
of my more experienced instructors, this is not a truly accurate
test because it doesn't take into account the body having a reaction
that causes the muscles to 'jam' and be unable to unlock.

The procedure described above is a more sensitive test that takes
only a few extra moments to check. Though very basic, it is a useful
concept expanded from Touch for Health Level 1 that most anyone can
understand and use right away to increase their accuracy. After all,
wouldn't it be awful if someone implied that because their PMS
muscle strengthened while in the presence of rutabagas they should
go home and eat bushel-fuls and then showed up at your doorstep
three days later with angry boils all over ????

(Editor's note: I happen to like rutabagas and hold nothing against
them, and no rutabagas were harmed in the production of this
e-newsletter!)

When working with sensitivities, this tip is just a very basic
introduction. If you would enjoy the challenges of working with
sensitivities there is much more information in classes of PKP,
Wellness Kinesiology, Kinergetics, and Health Kinesiology, to name
just a few, as well as clear techniques described in books such as
'Energy Mismatch' by Jane Thurnell-Reed.

IN THE NEWS
It was fascinating to listen to Oprah Winfrey's guest on
February 13th, 2007 - Dr. Oz who stated that "Energy Medicine
is the next big frontier".
It was also interesting to watch Oprah receive a couple of
acupuncture needles and hear discussion about meridian energy.
Wonder where that will lead her viewers????

April 2007

Office Notes
We have learned Ontario Bill 171 was called in front of the Ontario
Legislature on March 20, 2007, debated until April 2, 2007. It has
been ordered to Standing Committee. The portion of the Bill that
might affect our Ontario members specifically, is the
Registered Title clause in the Kinesiology Act, disallowing anyone
from using the word Kinesiologist in any form unless they belong to
the Ontario Kinesiology Association - a group formed to support
traditionally (university) trained kinesiologists.

Also, it has been learned from communications with various lawyers,
that these types of Bills passed in Ontario, regularly make an
appearance in similar form in British Columbia a few years later.

Tips

"Verbal Questionning"

Have you noticed in Touch for Health, there is no verbal question-
ning taking place? Muscles are tested, and if there is stress in
that circuit, the muscle unlocks. You may also notice a muscle
unlock in the presence of a substance that is biocidic (toxic), or
after a goal statement is made that the unconscious mind finds
stressful.
In this system, a stress = an unlocked muscle.

Many of our members have had sessions with practitioners who do
other modalities than Touch for Health and may use Verbal
Questionning to determine stressors. Often times, setting up an
indicator muscle during this type of session may look like finding
that a 'Yes' response = a muscle that locks, and a 'No' response =
a muscle that unlocks.
So, in this system, a stress can = a locked muscle which may seem
backward if you learned the Touch for Health system first.
("Are these symptoms at least in part related to food
sensitivities?" is an example of a question that gives a locked
response - a 'Yes', for something that is stressful.)

Both ways work wonderfully, as long as the practitioner remains
focused on which system they are operating with during each and
every muscle test, because the two procedures respond very
differently, and this is not always obvious to a beginner.

Experienced practitioners may quickly switch between the two systems
seamlessly during sessions, making it look effortless, and simple.
I have witnessed many a beginner get confused results because they
haven't taken the time to examine the differences between the
systems, and to be perfectly clear when testing question(s),
versus making statements.

To perform accurate testing, the practitioner needs to concentrate
and remain objective to determine accurate answers for their
clients. Attention must also be paid to the quality of the
statements and/or questions that are utilized.

In a recent issue of our regular paper newsletter, there was some
discussion about a trick of the mind called 'simple deletion'.
When we speak, we oftentimes delete words and whole phrases because
our meaning is clear to the other person(s) with whom we are having
the conversation. Their minds supply missing information based on
previous conversation, from hand gestures, and facial expressions.
However, if a legal secretary were transcribing some conversations
word for word, a stranger reading the transcipt might be misled
because their minds may supply different pieces of information to
fill in those voids and may be interpreted a different way when
taking the communication literally.....This can make for quite a
lot of fun when you start noticing these things!

That's where Verbal Questionning can get tricky. If I may pass along
something I've learned over some years, it would be this:
It would seem the unconscious mind is very literal, and responds
only to the information it's actually presented.
If you posed a question that wasn't a complete sentence, or
answerable only by a Yes, or a No, your results are going to be
less than accurate.

There are some wonderful tips on asking clever questions in a book
written by an experienced kinesiologist - Jane Thurnell Reed called
"Verbal Questionning Skills for Kinesiologists".

If you plan on using questions during your session, I highly
encourage you spend some time planning questions ahead of time,
to ensure that during the creativity of your sessions you are
actually asking unambiguous questions. A simple example taken from
Jane's book:
"Can you eat wheat?"
(The body may indicate yes because you have teeth!)
A more appropriate question: "Is it beneficial for you to eat
wheat?" or, "For optimum health, do you need to avoid all wheat?"

And in my experience, asking "Is this ' x ' good for me?" is a
terrible question. Better to ask both: "Does my body need and want
this ' x '?", and: "Can my body tolerate this ' x '?"
Assuming ' x ' is a piece of apple pie :-) maybe there is
something good in the pie that my body likes and needs so it may
respond yes to the first question, and the second question helps to
determine if I might have a less than positive reaction to
something else contained in the pie.

Give it some thought. Enjoy your explorations!

What This Means to Our Members In Ontario

According to this new legislation, it is illegal to hold yourself
out as a kinesiologist (or any derivative using the term
'kinesiologist') in Ontario, if you do not qualify to belong to the
Ontario Kinesiology College - an organization set up to register
university-trained kinesiologists.

The fines can range up to $50,000.

Please contact all the persons you know who practice Specialized
Kinesiology, Educational Kinesiology, Health Kinesiology, Energy
Kinesiology, etc. to pass this news along!

It is our understanding you can still say you DO "Kinesiology"
but you cannot say or advertise you ARE a "Kinesiologist".

As more information become available, you will be notified by a
further message through our email broadcast service.

This situation will be discussed at the Annual General Meeting of
CanASK, on June 7, 2007.

If you live in Ontario, please send your thoughts on how to move
ahead in this new environment to:
office@canask.org.

Your views and opinions will be forwarded to the Executive for
discussion at upcoming meetings.

August 17, 2007

Dear Members and Friends,

we were notified of this sad news by Sharon Promislow who received
an email from Judy Levin:

"This from Judy Levin today. Not unexpected, but sad news.
Hap's generosity of spirit infused those early years of kinesiology,
always wanting to share, help, teach and encourage the self
responsibility model. Sharon"

Dear Friends,

It is with great sadness that I tell you that one of the great men
of the Touch for Health movement and Kinesiology has passed away
today (Monday August 13, 2007)

Hap Barhydt is gone. He will be missed.

He had many challenges in his life but with his wonderful wife ,
Elizabeth he met them all. His last battle was with cancer and he
finally ended his fight today. Elizabeth was with him and took care
of him during this long last illness and we all send our love in
this hard time.

Keeping in touch,
Love, Judy Levin

Office Note:
Hap and Elizabeth published "Self Help for Stress and Pain plus
Learning Blocks - Simple Energy Balancing Exercises for home,
school, office, and athletics"
I found this book when I first entered into my Touch for Health
training, and found these techniques quite simple to perform and
share with others. I found it inspirational to hear of a couple
who travelled North America in their motorhome sharing Energy
Balancing techniques with those they met on the road.
I believe you can contact Elizabeth at lovinglife.org

Autumn 2007

Office Notes:

Dear Friends,

On an administrative note, we are currently working on issuing a letter to all members, and recently
lapsed members, about making sure to have your membership paid up before we produce our yearly
Membership Directory. This letter will include your current directory listing if you are a practitioner
or instructor member, and give you the chance to revise your listing (both the description of your
practice as well as your contact information). Funds should be received by the office before December
1st to streamline the timely production of the Directory. PLEASE respond quickly when you receive
your letter in the mail!
And if you're not a member of CanASK yet, and want to join and be included in the printed Directory
and have your contact info listed on our website, please contact the office at: office@canask.org
with your request.

Make sure to take note of all the classes being offered by clicking on the class listings link below.
Maybe you can suggest to some friends that they spend a couple of days taking some introductory
level classes and learn how they can help themselves and others too! They may be very grateful
for your suggestion.

Hope you are having a glorious fall whereever you live!

--------------------------------------------------------------------
TIPS!

Not a lot is really discussed about "Confidence" when you read a book that might describe using
muscle-testing, or when you take some classes. Yet just about everyone wonders "Am I doing this right?"
especially when they are beginners. Personally, I believe if one is humble enough to be concerned about
doing procedures correctly, it helps make them better practitioners with time and practice.
There seems to be a learning curve -- a time to calibrate yourself -- a time to notice when things go
right as well as when things don't progress as expected.
However, according to a few rumbles heard over the years, there might be a good number of people
who don't progress with training because of a lack of confidence. I am hoping this article touches
anyone that might consider themselves in that category - it's my dream that more people use these
techniques in their daily lives.

What does confidence mean anyway? It's not like a load of red bricks that anyone can observe and say:
"that's a load of red bricks". Confidence can mean different things to different folks so this is really a
challenging subject to approach.

For this reason, I will give a few brief, simple comments which I hope will guide you as you continue
to practice.

If you have taken training with a certified instructor we hope you have learned that you are not
diagnosing, you are not doing brain surgery, and you are not using muscle testing to divine the future.
That should take some pressure off!

Furthermore, you have hopefully learned that muscle testing is not about checking for muscle-strength
but rather that it indicates information about the nervous system and meridian system energy that supplies
the muscle. Therefore whenever you get any indication that a muscle is not functioning optimally you have
a clue that there is some SUBTLE disturbance that will usually respond to non-invasive techniques such as
rubbing a neurolymphatic reflex for a brief amount of time.
Because balancing techniques learned in kinesiology classes are so non-invasive they are generally regarded
as being "innocuous" by an average medico = "couldn't possibly hurt".
So, if what you do doesn't work, it shouldn't have harmed anyone in any way, as long as you weren't
consciously or unconsciously providing any diagnosis, divining, or conducting brain surgery!
However, when what you do does work, everyone is happy.
Isn't that one of the reasons why you took some training in the first place?

Early on in my training I heard an amazing story about the wonderful results when a classmate received a
Balance from a doctor who didn't know where all the correction points were, and how exactly to position
various muscles without regularly referring to a big square green book (an early version of the Touch for Health
book by Dr. Thie).
I decided right then that it would be perfectly okay for me as a layperson, to refer to my materials as often
as I needed until I learned through experience.
Sometimes I wasn't sure if I was doing things right; sometimes the people I worked on were not very in tune
with their bodies to report any improvements; and sometimes people were so unconscious they didn't recognize
when they were performing at greatly improved levels because their previous stresses were so effectively released
that they didn't give them another thought until you'd mention it to them a month later!
But sometimes, the most amazing results would occur that would spur me to take yet another course, read another
book, and eventually step up to the plate when the association needed some office help. And I still look in my notes
and books regularly, and my clients appreciate it. They feel secure that they are getting the best care and they tell
me so when I occasionally apologize for taking the time to look something up.

So here is the keeping it simple part: if you're afraid or unsure - act as if you're not - the only way to get better
is to keep practicing, keep noticing when things go right, and keep happiness rolling!

??? Did you know most instructors offer a greatly reduced fee for you to repeat classes - and this offer is generally
open even if you took a particular class with another instructor. Check it out. A lot of people are delighted to find out
how much they are doing correctly and get to fine-tune a few aspects that might not have sunk in the first time!

Busy building the yearly publication of our Membership Directory.
Happy New Year to everyone!

TIPS
Short and sweet message for you this newsletter:
"Be Grateful for what you have" We are all working in a profession
where our "Balancing" techniques imply that those who come to us for
help are not in a perfectly 'Balanced' state to begin with.
Fact is, most of us aren't usually perfectly balanced either - in
our emotions, our workload, our personal situations, and so on.
(Smile).
We have skills to take care of ourselves, so we can help others.
Make sure you do take time for yourselves too. You're important!

Some clients unknowingly contribute to our lives by reminding us how
lucky we are (should we compare ourselves). We may have a freer
range of motion, less pain, more positive beliefs, etc......

So - joining a lot of popular authors, you're invited to think about
it too, and count the positives in your life. Be Grateful!

And on a similar note: Sheryl Crow sings: "It's not about getting
what you want, but wanting what you get!"

Have a great New Year!

Tips

Hydration:
Are you planning on staying hydrated during all your upcoming spring
and summer activities?
Are you really hydrated when checking the turgidity or hair pull
test?
According to Phillip Rafferty founder of Kinergetics, and Charles
Krebs creator of the 'Environmental Factors' module of his Brain
Integration series of workshops, the body may have hidden hydration
stresses that do not cause the indicator muscle to unlock
when performing our regular hair-tug, or skin-pinch tests.
To work with these most effectively, it's worthwhile to attend these
workshops, however, at the very minimum you can start noticing if
there is hidden hydration stress (results when the body is
dehydrated but is in a state of compensation).

Try lightly tapping across the top of the head, to access the corpus
callosum, while verbally expressing: "Water" and immediately check
the IM. If it unlocks, provide more water, until the test no longer
causes the IM to unlock.
Repeat this more specific test with the words: "Hydration", and
"Dehydration". If the IM unlocks, provide water until the test no
longer causes the IM to unlock.

There are usually more biochemical activities that are stressed due
to problems with hidden hydration, which may include electrolyte
imbalances, so anything you can do to uncover and correct this

problem will be appreciated by your clients.

In the News

BILL C-51 and the follow-up Bill C-52???!!!!
Please see the following link for more information.
This is information you may have already received. The office
appreciates all the emails which have arrived from points all over
the country, and we've been awaiting more specific information
regarding any action we can advise our members to undertake before
forwarding this information. The information disseminated by the
Health Action Network (Hans.org) on Bill C-51 offers very good
advice, as well as a document issued by a constitutional lawyer
and President of the Natural Health Products Protection Branch,
Shawn Buckley on the follow up Bill C-52 which provides even more
reasons for taking action NOW.

Although Bill C-52 does not specifically target Natural Health
Products, the NHPPA is concerned that Bill C-52 sets a precedent
where Canadians will accept the removal of their rights in the name
of safety. Also, if Bill C-51 is defeated but Bill C-52 passes,
Bill C-52 could be made applicable to Natural Health Products by
way of a regulatory amendment to Schedule I of Bill C-52.

George Goodheart
- Founder of Applied Kinesiology

We have just learned that George Goodheart, peacefully passed away
Wednesday March 5th, at about 7:30 pm.
He was 89 years old.
According to Wally Schmidt, who sent the message to our American
colleagues, George was at home and had finished dinner shortly
before with Joanne (his wife) when he took a deep sigh and passed
away.

Dr. Goodheart played leadership roles and received great recognition
at national and international levels within his chiropractic
community. Many of us are grateful to have been in attendance during
the Touch for Health / Energy Kinesiology Conference in North
Carolina in 2005, when Dr. Goodheart was presented a Lifetime
Achievement Award for his pioneering work in the development of
Applied Kinesiology. We were especially blessed to have had the
pleasure of enjoying his presentation and meeting him during this
event.

Many thousands more have benefitted, and will continue to benefit
from the positive impact in all areas of their lives that they
receive through the development of many powerful tools which are now
at our disposal largely due to his original curiosity, courage, and
generosity.

We will be forever grateful for his presence among us.

We will let you know of any further pertinent information as it
becomes available.

A New Chapter in the Politics of Health
An Historic Day for Canada...
The Canadian Charter of Health Freedom is launched.
September 10, 2008 marks a momentous milestone for Canada ... and
possibly the world. Today the Canadian Charter of Health Freedom as
written by Shawn Buckley of the Natural Health Products Protection
Association (NHPPA) is launched.
The Canadian Charter of Health Freedom gives us an exciting fresh
focus for change and our freedom to choose.
Health Freedom and Election Call in Canada
The election means Bill C-51 and Bill C-52 are no longer an
immediate threat to our freedom to choose. New bills will have to
be drafted and introduced all over again.
Bill C-51 attempted to treat Natural Health Products as drugs.
And Bill C-52 was presented as a needed safety measure so readily
sailed through Parliament and was in the hands of the Standing
Committee on Health. Canada already has laws in place to ensure
safety.
With international interests pushing for restrictive Natural Health
Products legislation, we are keeping the pages describing these two
bills available as a reminder of what Health Canada attempted to
accomplish.
The Canadian Charter of Health Freedom, once passed into law, will
ensure Canadians have the freedom to access safe Natural Health
Products.
