Applied Kinesiology (AK)

One might describe AK as the grandfather of all kinesiologies. Developed by George Goodheart, DC in the 1960’s, AK is the form of kinesiology which chiropractors often learn and use. This style of kinesiology is taught to doctors, and laypersons should not be advertising themselves as Applied Kinesiologists. AK focuses substantially on the physical aspects of the body and nervous system. Dr. John Thie, DC, worked with Dr. Goodheart and was involved in AK research before writing his book: 'Touch for Health' for the general public.  Back to top

Touch for Health

Touch for Health (TFH) was originated by Dr. John Thie, DC, a chiropractor in Pasadena, California. Dr. Thie had studied with Dr. George Goodheart, DC, the developer of Applied Kinesiology.

Dr. Goodheart had taken the study of movement (kinesiology) and added to it corrections to strengthen muscles and improve function (practical application). His system was taught to chiropractors and other professionals.

Dr. John Thie realized that these methods were extremely useful, and also simple enough for anyone to learn. He developed TFH as a program for the lay person. He wrote the book: 'Touch for Health', and began teaching courses.

In the past thirty years Touch for Health has experienced phenomenal growth. The book has been translated into 15 languages, and courses have been taught in 50 countries. Local groups and associations exist in many parts of the globe.

Many people have joined in developing the Touch for Health synthesis. New programs and systems are continually evolving. Work on nutrition, emotions, education and muscle re-education have lead to the development of many related disciplines (see partial list below).

Every year the Annual Conference includes presentations of new and interesting material in the field, and at the same time giving practitioners and instructors a chance to get together, network, learn from each other, and have some fun.

In 1995 the International Kinesiology Collect (IKC) created a new four-level TFH program which is outlined in a separate page on this website. Touch for Health Course Outline.

The IKC also certifies TFH Instructors, and the Instructor Trainers.

In addition to the four levels of TFH, Instructors can be certified to teach the following approved courses:

Tibetan Energy, Stress Release Made Easy, Maximum Athletic Performance System, The Top Ten Series, Food & Supplement Testing, Kinesiology for Kids, Perceptive Vision.

Check with the instructor in your area to see if they are teaching these mini-workshops.

Professional Kinesiology Practice (PKP)

The PKP Certification program is a four year New Zealand Qualifications Authority accredited Diploma program in New Zealand. Internationally, ICPKP appointed colleges teach the Diploma throughout the world. In Canada we currently have two colleges. The first year’s line up is fifteen workshops titled:

Energizers and Self Testing
Manual Muscle Testing
5 Elements – Yin Balance
Kinesiology and Superficial Connections
5 Elements in Depth
Professional Skills / Balancing Protocol
Pain Reduction
History / Balancing with Food
Advanced Muscle Techniques
Client Health Records, Professional Relationships
Mastery of Emotional Stress Release
Behavioural Genetics
Muscles and Skin Activation
Basic Brain Integration Skills
Basic Human Anatomy

Previously March 31, 1999, PKP was a series of four 7-day workshops which included ‘advanced’ material that had accumulated from research and development after the Touch For Health Synthesis drew it’s boundaries at what was ‘basic’ and ‘for laypersons’. Dr. Bruce Dewe and his wife Joan Dewe in New Zealand both developed and collected new material into the four workshops for practitioners who wanted to get 'advanced' materials. To meet the NZ Qualifications Authority requirements, the Dewes completely redeveloped their system to encompass the Applied Kinesiology material also used in Touch for Health. They have blended old and new techniques in a student centered, integrated, outcomes-based format.,
It is taught in 60 modules and is a system that accredits practitioners of Specialized Kinesiology with an International Diploma in Kinesiology.

For more information check their website which is listed on our Links page.   Back to top

Educational Kinesiology
(Brain Gym)

Educational Kinesiology (Edu-K or Brain Gym) is a wonderful, simple system for children, parents, teachers and anyone who wishes to improve their learning performance.

Edu-K was created from the synthesis of Touch for Health, Neurological Organization Techniques, and optometric vision training by Dr. Paul Dennison, an American educator specializing in remedial reading. It focuses on improving the functioning of the nervous system in view of the total person and has a number of techniques to “switch on”: left/right brain integration, the eyes, the ears and whole body co-ordination.

Much research has shown that the “switching off” of the right and left hemispheres of the brain inhibits optimum performance in functions like reading, writing, recall and motor skills. Educational Kinesiology teaches that “movement is the key” to activate the brain. By restoring the brain to optimal activity, more effective learning patterns can be accessed and compensatory patterns can be released.

Edu-K techniques identify the blocks which create “dis-integration”. Specific techniques and exercises help in overcoming the blocks to establish the flow of information throughout the whole brain and nervous system.

With Edu-K, learning becomes easier and more enjoyable. Its subtle motivation encourages students by it‘s very results.

The manuals and methods of teaching Edu-K are structured towards children being able to understand and use the information. For kids, Edu-K is not a chore or a cold, uncaring experience. Rather it is a fun-loving and involved one which promotes greater self-confidence and responsibility.

With advanced courses, vocational opportunities arise in the area of teaching or consulting. However, at a basic level, Edu-K is easily introduced into the family or classroom situation.    Back to top

Three-In-One Concepts
(The One Brain System)

One Brain is an amazing system for releasing stress, improving learning abilities, and enhancing performance in many areas. It is an experiential and educational way of working with personal and professional issues without causing additional stress. The focus of the One Brain system is to release the Negative Emotional Stress that interferes with the balance of mind, body, and spirit. One Brain’s “emotional stress defusion” helps bring these elements back into balance, and opens awareness to positive options and new alternatives.

One Brain ‘Facilitators’ around the world have had remarkable success dealing with such issues as self esteem, negative self-image, failed personal and professional communication, allergic symptoms, as well as chronic or acute emotional and/or physical pain. We do not work with “symptoms or problems”, physical or emotional. We work with the Negative Emotional Charge people have on such issues. Negative emotion can create (and certainly maintain) physical imbalances within the body. Once this stress is “off-the-line”, the body can more easily re-balance and heal itself.

The One Brain System was developed by three unique individuals: Gordon Stokes, Daniel Whiteside, and Candace Callaway. Their partnership forms Three In One Concepts Inc. in Burbank, California. Three in One designed the One Brain System to be a uniquely gentle way of releasing stress from mind and body, which respects each individual’s power of choice.

“One Brain” is the result of many years of research and development at Three In One Concepts. In developing the One Brain System, Three In One discovered that every “physical problem” has its roots in an emotional cause. Since blocked emotion equals blocked energy in the mind and body, that blockage can surface in many ways – including physical pains and other problems.

Facilitators work with an expanded definition of dyslexia, which includes learning disabilities in perception, communication, relationships, and awareness. Dyslexia, in this system, means any emotionally induced blind spot caused by the stress of life.

One thing that differentiates One Brain Facilitators from other Specialized Kinesiology Practitioners is the very specific use of the BEHAVIORAL BAROMETER designed and developed at Three In One Concepts. “The Behavioral Barometer is an extremely powerful tool used to help you to identify why you are how you are in a certain situation, and what your choices are. The Behavioral Barometer is the spine of everything we do” says Daniel Whiteside.

The One Brain system is also unique in its use of “Clear Circuit Muscle Testing”, which is very gentle and highly accurate. Facilitators use this non-intrusive form of biofeedback from the body to gently obtain only the information you need to know to understand your issue. Since your body will only provide us with information you are ready to deal with, this creates safety when working with highly charged issues.

Three in One Concepts have developed the One Brain system into: Professional Training Programs; Special Interest Workshops; and Client-centered programs; all aimed at providing Choice where No Choice seems to exist right now. Three in One Concepts have training facilitators around the world who now present a wide variety of programs and / or offer private ‘defusions’.   Back to top

Bio-Kinesiology  (BK or Bio-K)

Developed by John Barton, Bio-K was one of the first modalities to research in detail hundreds of tissues in the body and their related emotions, meridians, and corrections. Many Bio-K texts are available including the famous ATLAS of over 800 researched tissues.

Health Kinesiology (HK)

Health-K is an original and comprehensive system of body/mind energy work developed by Jimmy Scott, PhD. Based on acupuncture, Applied Kinesiology and Touch for Health, Health-K expands on those disciplines. Dr. Scott based his work on a solid, scientific understanding of human electro-magnetic, psychological and spiritual issues, and addresses everything from allergy detoxification to geobiology.    Back to top

Applied Physiology (AP)

A powerful system of stress management procedures developed by Richard Utt. One of the key features of AP is the depth and accuracy of its muscle testing procedures and its monitoring techniques which allow direct evaluation of stress in various parts of the nervous system. “Powers of Stress” monitoring has made significant contributions to kinesiology theory.

Extensive research spanning many years has lead to impressive charting of numerous stress states throughout the body, and how it impacts anatomy, physiology, energy centers, and more. The foundation workshop called AgapeQuest introduces hologram theory and numerous specific correction techniques.

Many other workshops follow, including but not limited to: The Five Houses of Chi, The Tao of Blood, Anatomy and Physiology, and many other techniques. Richard Utt also developed a unique and powerful system called “The Seven Chi Keys” for balancing the seven main chakras.

All Encompassing Love - The total and complete acceptance and implementation of all the physical and metaphysical laws of the universe, known or unknown."
 by Richard D. Utt

Hyperton-X (HTX)

Developed by the late Frank Mahoney, HTX is designed to identify and release the hypertonic (over-tight) state of muscles. Releasing the muscles leads to increased range of motion, reduction of pain and has a profound impact on sports performance, injuries and learning difficulties.   Back to top

Neural Organization Technique (N.O.T.)

In 1979, Dr. Carl Ferrari, DC, of New York recognized the importance of the survival systems of the body. Feeding, Flight/Fright, Reproduction, and Immune System are primary to survival. Protocols were developed to correct these, as well as head injuries, dyslexia, scoliosis, endocrine and circulation imbalances.   Back to top

Body Management

Al Berry’s system coordinates muscle testing to assess the physical, structural, emotional, mental and spiritual harmony of people and animals.

Specific protocol of assessment and correction techniques based on sequential procedures assists in muscular-skeletal realignment, internal organ realignment, lymphatic circuit breakers release, joint release. Techniques include cold laser cranial realignment, nutritional and environmental support as well as multi-linked acupressure.

A Body Management Balance is as intricate as it is simple, by focusing on structural alignment of bones and organs to first release blocked nerve and acupuncture energy in the body. Next, power centers and circuit breakers are addressed. If power centers are not activated, the body will only hold its correction for a few hours, or even only minutes. Acupuncture meridian energy is then balanced to relieve over-energy, and scans for emotional/mental stress are performed to help lock in the correction through the defusion of these stressors, releasing sabotage from continuing to affect the physical body.     Back to top
